There are many different waxes and formulas available in the market to apply on. But the question is why should one apply wax on the car? Every car is coated with its particular paint job as it rolls out of the manufacturing line. This paint job is several layers thick but with the wear and tear that happens over the period of time the coat tends to fade and appears webbed. By putting on wax, you add additional protective layers on the paint layer which will then minimize the damage that occurs to the paint. The wax and compounds also are a great way of protecting your car from the harshness of the weather conditions the most important of which are rain and sunlight.

A shiny car reflects the harmful sunshine which is proved to be of fading nature to the paint. The rain, on the other hand, leaves spots on the paint when it dries. A properly waxed and polished car is resistant to both. It reflects the harmful rays of the sun as well as never lets the water do damage. A waxed car is also easier to clean after rain as compared to a car which is not waxed. The trick is to sprinkle some water on the wax layer and then wipe it off with a soft clean cloth leaving behind the paint as shiny and neat as it was never in a rain. Also, the life of the paint job is extended if the wax coating is made sure throughout the year. An unprotected paint coat when exposed to numerous car washes and the air friction while on the road tends to accumulate a phenomenon known as webbing in which minute lines appear on the paint and dulls the shine eventually. A waxed paint is permanently protected from this effect hence leaving the paint unharmed and protected.

There is a different opinion of drivers regarding the number of times a car should be waxed. According to most popular response, two to three times a year is sufficient for any car to stay protected under the layer of wax. There are many compounds and waxes available in the market which offers from standard basic to extreme protection. Most of the compounds used in these products are synthetic but some are natural e.g. bee wax. The methods of application are different for all the waxes and range from manual application to the automatic procedure. Most importantly it is advisable to spray on a water repellent on the wax if you have to face frequent downpours.
